Woodcraft is carrying both Hock and Liberon flakes. The Hock shellac is de-waxed, the Liberon (that I've seen) isn't; and, yeah, they're gonna cost a lot more ('round 20 bucks, or more per/lb.).

Well, I tried searching the archives here looking for shellac or seedlac suppliers that folks prefer, but haven't had much luck. I'm wondering what happened to the folks at Liberon/woodfinishsupply/shellac.net. Their toll-free number has been disconnected. I need some superblonde, as well as kusmi #2 seedlac or maybe garnet lac or something that's hard and reddish brown. So far the only suppliers I've found are charging over twice what I paid for superblonde from Liberon a while back. Hoping I can find a good, reasonably priced source. Any recommendations? I just ordered some of Hock's orange shellac from Highland Hardware. I'll give it a try. Should probably work pretty well I hope for this mahogany guitar I'm building. The mahogany is nice, but very pale in color, hence my request for shellac with more of a reddish tint. I'm still interested in finding a source for seedlac, though. Found one fellow on eBay selling Kusmi seedlac. I might give his a try if I can't find any anywhere else. Best, Michael |

Michael, look at Kremer Pigments in NYC. They sell top quality art supplies, shellac among them. I've been very pleased with the shellac and other products I bought from them. One warning, if you ever visit in person, leave the credit card at home. Michael, Behlen's here in the UK still have seedlac available. Stew Mac I believe sells Behlen's hide glue and may be able to tell you the Behlens importer. Or google Behlens. Behlens seedlac Colin |

Thanks for the tip, Colin. I googled 'behlen seedlac' and found that Japan Woodworker carries it. Rlabbe, interesting site. I followed a link to this place. Looks like some interesting stuff. Pricey, though. Best, Michael |
